Setting up your work email on your iPhone is essential for staying connected and organized, especially when you’re on the go. Using IMAP or POP3, you can easily configure your work email to ensure seamless access to your inbox, allowing you to respond to clients, colleagues, and business partners quickly. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to set up your work email on an iPhone using IMAP or POP3.
If you’re looking to use Outlook, we have written a great guide on setting that up too!
IMAP vs. POP3: Which One Should You Choose?
Before starting, it’s important to understand the difference between IMAP and POP3, two common protocols for retrieving email.
- IMAP: Ideal if you want to access your email from multiple devices (phone, laptop, desktop) as it keeps emails synchronized across all devices. Emails remain stored on the server.
- POP3: Downloads emails to your device, allowing you to access them even without internet. Once downloaded, emails are typically removed from the server, so they won’t be accessible on other devices.
For most users, IMAP is recommended due to its convenience and accessibility across multiple devices.
Step-by-Step Guide to Set Up Work Email on iPhone Using IMAP or POP3
Step 1: Open Your iPhone Settings
1) Unlock your iPhone and go to the Settings app.
2) Scroll down and tap on Mail.
Step 2: Add a New Email Account
3) In the Mail settings, tap Accounts.

4) Tap on Add Account and then choose Other (you’ll typically select this for work email accounts that aren’t Google, Yahoo, etc.).

5) Tap on Add Mail Account.

Step 3: Enter Your Email Account Information
You’ll need to enter your work email credentials to continue.

6) Name: Enter your name as you’d like it to appear in outgoing emails.
7) Email: Enter your full work email address (e.g., tyler@nexuslean.com).
8) Password: Type in the password for your work email account.
9) Description: Enter a name for the account to help identify it (e.g., “Work Email”).
After entering these details, tap Next.
Step 4: Configure IMAP or POP3 Settings
Now, you’ll choose between IMAP and POP3. Most work emails will use IMAP, but you should check with your email provider if you’re not sure.
1) Choose IMAP or POP3 at the top of the screen.

2) Incoming Mail Server:
- Host Name: Enter the incoming server address (usually something like imap.yourcompany.com for IMAP or pop3.yourcompany.com for POP3).
- Username: Enter your full work email address.
- Password: Re-enter the password for your work email.
3) Outgoing Mail Server:
- Host Name: Enter the SMTP server address (usually something like smtp.yourcompany.com).
- Username: Enter your full work email address again.
- Password: Re-enter the password for your work email.
Once these settings are filled in, tap Next.
Step 5: Save Your Settings
Your iPhone will now attempt to verify the information you entered. If everything is correct, it will complete the setup automatically. If there are any issues, double-check the information with your email provider to ensure it’s accurate.
After verification, tap Save to add the account.
Step 6: Customize Additional Mail Settings (Optional)
1) Go back to Settings > Mail > Accounts and select your newly added work email account.
2) Tap on Account > Advanced Settings to configure additional options:

- Mailbox Behaviors: Choose where sent, deleted, and archived messages are stored.
- SSL: Ensure SSL is enabled for both incoming and outgoing mail servers for secure email transmission.
- IMAP Path Prefix: Often required by some email providers for synchronization; check with your provider if needed.
